| Mission and Approach
A member of the Pennsylvania bar since 1976 and a law professor since 1983, I opened my office in Delaware County, Pennsylvania in September of 2000. After 17 years as a full-time law professor, teaching students the law of property, wills & trusts, and trial advocacy, it was time to apply my knowledge and experience to help citizens solve their legal problems and achieve their planning objectives.
Recognizing that clients are people and not just "cases," I seek to develop a personal relationship with each client and the client's family. I take a holistic approach to the client's situation, considering the context as well as the details.
Believing that the legal system should be used to heal rather than to wound, I am sympathetic to the emerging school of "therapeutic jurisprudence." Taking a creative approach to legal problem solving, I try to reduce conflict and avoid litigation by developing "win-win" solutions that satisfy the needs of all parties. When compromise fails, however, I am prepared to aggressively pursue available legal remedies on behalf of my client.
I continue to teach law students as an adjunct professor at Widener University School of Law in Wilmington, Delaware. Teaching enriches my life and also my law practice by keeping me current with national legal trends.
Overview of Practice
I am engaged in the general practice of law, with an emphasis on:
Elder law Estate planning, wills and trusts Real estate
For complex tax matters, I work with a colleague, Jay Katz, who has an LL.M. in taxation and teaches tax law as an adjunct at Widener University School of Law and Temple Law School. Professor Katz has expertise in all aspects of tax law: personal and business income tax, estate taxes, and income taxation of trusts and estates.
For clients who have suffered injuries from accidents, toxic substances or medical mistakes, I work with attorneys who specialize in personal injury litigation. The litigation is handled by a specialist, but I remain available to help the client understand the procedures and evaluate possible opportunities for settlement.
